What is a Supposal?
A supposal is a thought experiment or an idea seed.
Supposals can be framed in the form "If x had y and z properties instead of f,g and h what would happen?" In this sense they can best be explained in terms of the doctrine of possible worlds.
I have taken the term from C.S. Lewis, who used a supposal to come up with the idea for his incredibly popular Chronicles of Narnia series. Basically he wondered "What if Jesus Christ came to a different world, but in the form of a lion?" The entire series appears to be constructed from that initial thought experiment.
Now that I have offered a brief introduction to supposals I should actually show the one that led to the creation of this website.
My First Supposal
Suppose I had a site where I could keep track of and develop ideas I have.
I am notoriously absent minded. I often have 'brilliant' ideas that I quickly forget. Plus I am something of a scatter brain, so I tend to think about many different things at once, instead of staying focused. (Maybe I need Focusin ???) Both those traits are not helpful for a fulfilling life of the mind, so I wanted a way to work around them and minimize them. Since I am a web developer by trade, the idea of an online database was the eventual winner in a number of ideas.
See my site technology page for more information about the technical aspects of my decision.
In answer to my supposal you have this site. What the relevant conclusions my thought experiment are I am not sure. I will leave that to other people to decide.
