Jesus is My Way
To continue my spiritual growth, I am going through Henry Blackaby's Experiencing God. While it is a Protestant work, it seems very solid and basic so it should prove fruitful. Especially since the goal of the course is to get in a more intimate relationship with Christ. These are my notes and thoughts from the course, probably not of much use to anyone else...
Jesus is My Way
To continue my spiritual growth, I am going through Henry Blackaby's
Experiencing God. While it is a Protestant work, it seems very solid
and basic so it should prove fruitful. I was originally given the book for a Bible study that I was not able to attend. Especially since the goal of
the course is to get in a more intimate relationship with Christ.
These are my notes and thoughts from the course, probably not of much
use to anyone else...
Experiencing God - Unit 1 - Day 1
As you follow Jesus one day at a time, He will keep you in the center of God's will.
Jesus is my way. I do not need any other road map.
Weekly Memorization Verse
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing." John 15:5
... Lord take not Your Holy Spirit from me!!!!
Saving Faith
Trusting Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour is a prerequisite to any relationship with God.
Review the following Scriptures:
1. All have sinned. Romans 3:23.
2. Eternal life is a free gift of God. Romans 6:23.
3. Because of love, Jesus paid the death penalty for our sins. Romans 5:8, John 3:16.
4. Confess Jesus as Lord and believe God raised Him from the dead. Romans 10: 9-10, Apostles' Creed.
5. Ask God to save you and He will. Romans 10:13, Ephesians 2:8-9, John 14:6.
To recap, to place your faith in Jesus Christ and receive His gift of eternal life you must:
1. Recognize that you are a sinner and that you cannot save yourself. You need a saving relationship with Jesus Christ.
2. Confess (agree with God) about your sins.
3. Repent of your sins (turn from sin to God.)
4. Ask Jesus to save you by His grace.
5. Turn over the rule in your life to Jesus. Let Him be your Lord. (Blackaby stands in Lordship of Christ camp apparently.)
Goals of Course
1. Hear when God is speaking to you.
2. Clearly identify the activity of God in your life.
3. Believe Him to be and do everything He promises.
4. Adjust your beliefs, character, and behaviour to Him and His ways.
5. See a direction that He is taking in your life and what He wants to do through your life.
6. Clearly know what you need to do in response to His activity in your life.
7. Experience God doing through you what only God can do.
LIFE - Lay Institute for Equipping - Authority
Our Teacher:
"The Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, will teach you all truth." John 14:26
The Holy Spirit uses the Bible, God's Word in speaking to us. Blackaby is protestant so adheres to Sola Scriptura. Wants traditions and experience measured against Word of God. Does not say what to measure Scripture, or interpretations of Scripture against. Does not distinguish between traditions of God and of men.
LIFE:
- precursor to this course, liked acronym.
Jesus "I am the way and the truth and the life." John 14:6
Daily Review
Matthew 6:33-34 "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things shall be given to you as well. Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will take care of itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
- God is absolutely trustworthy.
- I will follow God one day at a time.
- I will follow Him even if I do not know all the details.
- I will let Him be my Way.
1. What was the most meaningful statement or Scripture you read today?
"Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness." Most meaningful because I constantly need to be reminded of it.
2. Reword the statement or Scripture into a prayer of response to God.
Lord help me seek Your kingdom above any other thing and help me not to get distracted or sidetracked by diversions.
3. What does God want you to do in response to today's study?
Not 100% sure... be faithful to the basics, seek Him first. Pray, pray, pray!!!
4. Retype weekly memorization verse.
"I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing." John 15:5
