Summary From Weber State Lecture Question and Answer Period
(Ravi Zacharias)
- People need four components to bring meaning to their lives:
wonder, truth, love, security.
- You cannot take just one as the test for meaning. A person can say
I have a lot of enchantment when I have LSD in my veins. Or someone else
can say "I have a lot of money saved up for retirement, I feel very
secure." So what? What does that have to do with the truthfullness of
what you believe?
- As children we desire wonder and enchantment.
- When we are in teens/early 20's we eed truth, fairy stories not true. Compare physical measurements vs metaphysical measurements.
- Late 20s/30s you are looking for lovebeyond mere romance.
- As you grow older you look for security, how doyou know that what you believe will ultimately stand the test of time.
Also is there is a life beyond the grave.
- "We live in a postmodern culture where people wonder what meaning
really means."
- What brings meaning: "when you combine a sense of wonder, undergirded
by truth, experiencing the richness of love with the knowledge of security"
- The older you get the more it takes to fill your heart with wonder,
and only God is big enough to fill that void the older you get. As
Chesterton said "Christ alone is the perpetual novelty."
- What gave Christ the audacity to say "I am the way, the truth and the
life?"
Conclusion
- How does Jesus bring wonder? in Himself is the truth, He teaches the beauty of love and gives us security beyond the grave.
